Katie Farrell
Katie completed her BSc Physiotherapy degree at University College Dublin (UCD) with second class honours, grade one. While attending UCD, Katie gained experience in the physiotherapy management of musculoskeletal injuries and neurological conditions, at both an acute and primary care level.
Other areas of experience for Katie included the physiotherapy management and rehabilitation of patients following orthopaedic surgical procedures as well as acute respiratory care. Katie also has a strong interest in paediatric physiotherapy, and has clinical experience in an acute paediatric hospital setting.
Katie is a certified Stott Pilates instructor and uses modified Pilates exercises with excellent results in her clinical practice. She also has a keen interest in the clinical application of medical acupuncture and related needling techniques in the treatment of musculoskeletal pain alongside manual therapy.
Katie also enjoys treating sports injuries and worked extensively with the UCD intermediate hurling team, providing match day and training cover.
Katie’s final year thesis was titled “Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Exercise for people with Chronic Pain: A Qualitative Analysis”. This allowed her to gain an insight into those suffering with chronic pain benefitted from the ACT programme in the Mater Misericordiae University Hospital. Katie’s research was presented at the UCD Centre of Translational Pain Conference in May 2017.
Katie enjoys Pilates, running and going to the gym to keep fit.
Katie has joined us from Mount Merrion Physiotherapy Clinic after their closure and we’re delighted to have her.
