Pre-Operative Rehabilitation
Where surgical intervention is warranted there may be an extended waiting period until a surgical procedure can be performed. During this period disuse can often occur. The injured site may be painful. This in turn can lead to atrophy (wasting) of the surrounding muscles and restrictions in movement resulting from soft tissue tightness and alteration of normal movement patterns. In the vast majority of cases pre-operative rehabilitation can be performed with a physiotherapist to offset/limit these effects.
Physiotherapy treatment can help to maximize the surrounding tissue thereby keeping it as healthy and strong as possible. This may aid recovery post-surgery. Improved outcomes and shorter recovery times have been demonstrated in patients who undergo preoperative exercise protocols.
Depending on your injury or condition our Physiotherapists will prescribe a specific exercise program tailored to your needs. Techniques to help reduce pain may be applied. Techniques may also be utilized to limit the progression or improve pre-existing soft tissue tightness or joint stiffness.
