Ergonomics
A typical desk based employee spends nearly six hours sitting at their work desk. Prolonged periods of sitting has been shown to be detrimental for your physical health. Unfortunately for many people sitting at a desktop is part of modern day working life and absolutely necessary. It is essential that that we ensure our workstation is optimally set up to maximise comfort and minimize the physical stress being applied to the body.
Desktop related injuries are usually due to overloading the body as a result of poor sitting posture and improper workstation set up. Typical work station injuries include:
- Spinal injuries (commonly lower back and neck)
- Shoulder pain
- Wrist pain/injury e.g. Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
- Tennis elbow
- Muscle strain in neck and shoulders.
